The question above seems very basic to the average believer and more common to the unbeliever. It is very common to hear the unbeliever ask; “does God love me?”, yet many believers tend to find themselves in such a state without realizing it. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you felt so carnal and thought you were on your own? Questions like: “Am I being punished for my sins?”, “Has God left me?”, “Am I worthy enough for my prayers to be answered by God?”…the list can go on and on, but all these questions end at the bigger confusion: “Does God Love Me?”
You cannot be too sure of an answer to this question if you do not trust God. You may generate a concoction of thoughts and memories from previous sermons the priest in your Church shared during service, you may be guilt-played by your conscience to kill your thought of confusion because it makes you seem less of the Christian you want others to perceive you. All these are shortcuts to escaping your thoughts of confusion and go a long way to hinder your opportunity for spiritual growth.
Firstly, let us answer the question: “Does God know me?”
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5 NIV
The word of God came to Jeremiah the Prophet and that was the great introduction God gave him to give him an idea of who He (God) is, and to assure him that he knew him. There is one common thing that happens anytime God called people in the Bible, and that is God introduces Himself but requires no introduction from whom He calls. In the above scripture, we can clearly understand that God knows all His creations [(“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you..”)]. The first thing you must know is that God made everything with a purpose, hence for the sake of that purpose He knows who He makes for it. Take it like a team coach who makes a selection of players for a tournament, on the field of play, he tends to know every player in action including the substitutes on the bench, So before the coach calls one from the bench from the substitutes, He knows who he is calling. Therefore before God created us, He knew us. Glory!
The next vital question is: “Who am I to God?”
… “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. ”
Ephesians 1:5 NIV
Before the creation of the world, God envisioned us as His sons and daughters, and so in love, He predestined us to become His sons (not just His creation, but sons) through our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the book of Genesis, when God had created all things, He said “Let Us make man in Our own image…” God created all things with life, but the life of mankind was totally different. After God had formed man out of the dust, He breathed into him to give Him life. The love of God for mankind began before creation, and so during the creation of man, God shared a part of Himself with us by breathing into us His spirit, glory! We are God’s image, we are God’s children adopted through our Lord Jesus Christ. You are that special son or daughter of God who has a part of Him in you. You are not just part of God’s creation, but God’s son/daughter adopted in love through Jesus.
The third question is: “What is God’s plan for My Life?”
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. “
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
Throughout scripture, God through loving ways and an encouraging voice declares His plan for mankind; His plan for you. He is your father and he has plans to make you prosperous in whatever you do. God in no way has any plan of bringing you to harm. His plans for you are that of a brighter future, for His ways are not the ways of man. Before you wake from your sleep, He plans for you. Before you go to bed, He still sustains His plans for you. He never sleeps nor slumbers, He is always watching over you and ready to guide you every step of the way through the HolySpirit. Every plan of God for your life is born of His everlasting love for you.
That leads us to the final question: “Do you trust God?”
He is your father, do you trust Him? He is the same God who sacrificed His only begotten son Jesus Christ in order to save you and me when we were on the verge of destruction. Do you trust Him enough? It is when our trust begins to fade that questions like “Does God love me?” pop up. It is the doings of the devil, to corrupt your faith and rob you of the power you possess as a Christian by giving your creator all your heart (trust).w
Whatever situation you find yourself in, I want to remind you that God’s love for you is bigger than the hatred of the whole world together, His plan for you is greater than traps set by your enemies, He is the mightiest of all-mighty.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. “
1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
God always makes a way and so even in the darkest moments, do not doubt your faith. Be reminded of His promises for your life and tarry on in an unflinching faith. God’s always got you. The victory of our Lord Jesus Christ is our guarantee over every bad situation we face. God Loves You! Be sure to walk with people who strengthen your faith more, check out my previous article addressing that here
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, help me to trust you more, even when my faith is on the verge of diminishing, revive me and remind me of your special promise for my life through the HolySpirit. I am a son/daughter of the Most-High God, and so I will forever remain victorious in Jesus’ name, Amen.
